The Iowa breaded pork tenderloin sandwich competition is an annual event that brings together some of the finest restaurants in the state. Each year, these companies compete to earn the title of the best sandwich.  Flavor Chips "Chicken on the Run" Breading was used by Cliff's Place, who placed 1st of 744 contestants. Cliff and Vicki Waterbury opened the restaurant in February of 1977 in Manning, Iowa, the winner of this years contest. The business now expects to sell 5-10 times the regular amount, due to its newfound popularity in the coming weeks.

Cliffs Place is run by Owner and Brothers Jon and Jim Waterbury, with Vicki working at the restaurant to this day. For their success in placing 1st place, they will receive $500, a plaque, and a large weatherproof banner to display.

The Iowa Pork Producers winnowed the list down to 40 over the summer, using criteria such as pork taste and quality, physical characteristics, and eating experience. The pork tenderloins must be hand-breaded or battered to be considered for this contest. The restaurant also must be open all year long and have the breaded pork tenderloin on the menu at all times.
