How it Began

The United Bowhunters of Pennsylvania's Disabled Hunter Program began in 1999 with an idea from Ernie Kramer. Ernie presented this idea to the UBP leadership and gained approval to move forward. Ernie was encouraged by David Sullivan of Buckmaster's Disabled Hunter Services. They agreed to supply a hunt if Ernie could come up with the funds for the transportation to hunting. The Physically Challenged Bowhunters of America (PCBA) and Buckmasters provided the applications that first year. Each year the program grew a little, and a dedicated committee was formed. The program currently sends at least six disabled hunters on hunts each year. The program is funded primarily from the proceeds from our yearly fundraising banquet. The banquet has become one of the premiere sportsmen events in the area, typically selling out each year at around 300 attendees.

2023 Sporting Clays Benefit Shoot

Sporting clay shooting is a type of shooting sport that involves hitting clay targets launched from different locations and angles. It is often described as "golf with a shotgun" because of the variety of shots and the emphasis on strategy and skill.

In 2022 DHP had its first-ever Sporting Clays Event. How it works is every squad of 4 shooters (sponsors) will sponsor a Disabled Shooter for the day! DHP had a solid turnout of sponsors for their 2022 event, with 14, but they are looking to have an even greater turnout for their 2023 event.
